Elm bast is a soft, fine, yet durable fibre found beneath the bark of the elm tree. Similar to linden bast, it was traditionally used for decorative tying, making ropes, baskets, and small utility objects. Thanks to its flexibility and strength, it was valued in traditional crafts and folk art.
