Krpce

A type of low leather footwear made from pig or cattle hide. In its homemade form, krpce were made from a rectangular piece of leather. The two front corners of the leather were brought together and stitched with a thin leather strip cut from its edge. The sides and heel were folded and tightened with straps pulled through holes along the edge. In its craft-made form, krpce consisted of two parts: a sole to which the upper part was sewn using strong waxed thread (dratva). In Slovakia, pointed krpce were also common, which did not distinguish between left and right foot.
