paličkovaná čipka
A self-supporting openwork (transparent) knitted textile made by braiding, crossing and twisting threads using bobbins on a cushion or pillow. Bobbin lace making spread to Slovakia in the second half of the 16th century with mining populations from Germany. In later centuries it was influenced by lace-making traditions from Bohemia and Italy. From the 17th century, especially in central Slovak mining regions and around Prešov, bobbin lace production (often referred to as “mining lace”) developed as an important supplementary occupation. In the 19th century, regional and local variations of bobbin lace also emerged in rural areas, where it is referred to as “peasant” or “farmer’s lace.”
