Činovať
A term used for fabrics with a weave other than plain weave or for textiles decorated with patterning techniques. In some regions (e.g. Liptov), it referred to all fabrics with a weave other than plain weave, while elsewhere it referred only to ribbed fabrics (e.g. činovať woven on three shafts in Dobrá Niva) and twill fabrics.
In Detva and Senohrad, white činovať was woven on six shafts, while craft weavers in Kremnica used four shafts. Red twill činovať with colored stripes was woven in the Horehronie region and around Trenčín.
In several regions of Slovakia, the term činovať was also used for patterned or figured textiles, where decoration was created using a separate pattern weft, usually of a different color than the ground fabric. Fabrics known as bakačíny were also referred to as činovať.
