Tesil®
Tesil is a trade name for a textile material created by combining cotton (or other plant-based fibers) with synthetic polyamide fibers such as silon. The name is derived from the words “textile” and “silon,” and it was introduced in Czechoslovakia between the 1960s and 1980s, mainly in clothing and garment manufacturing plants. The goal was to combine the strength, elasticity, quick-drying, and low moisture absorption properties of polyamide with the breathability and comfort of natural cellulose-based materials. Tesil is produced by blending fibers during yarn preparation or by weaving (or knitting) selected ratios of cotton and silon.
Processing is carried out on standard textile machines, and the resulting fabrics are lightweight, strong, colorfast, resistant to wrinkling, and easy to maintain. Tesil proved particularly successful in the production of workwear and formal clothing, trousers, skirts, dresses, coats, and linings—valued for its durability, easy washing, and quick drying. It is still occasionally used today in the technical textile sector. Combined fabrics such as tesil represent an important milestone in the history of Central European textiles and are among the most characteristic clothing materials of the second half of the 20th century.
