Diolen®
Diolen is a trade name for a synthetic fiber made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which belongs to the polyester fiber group. It was developed in Germany in the mid-20th century in response to the growing demand for strong, lightweight, and low-maintenance textile materials. Diolen is produced by melting PET and then spinning it into fibers—the molten polymer is extruded through fine spinnerets, cooled, and formed into filaments of the required thickness and strength.
Diolen is characterized by high tensile strength, low moisture absorption, abrasion resistance, and color fastness. It is highly elastic and quick-drying, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. In the textile industry, it is used for clothing (outdoor and sportswear), swimwear, underwear, technical textiles, upholstery, ropes, and nonwoven materials. Due to its properties, diolen is also popular in the automotive and construction industries.
Diolen significantly contributed to the development and expansion of polyester textiles in Europe after 1950, replacing more expensive and less durable natural fibers in many segments.
