Moira®
Moira® is a specialised functional textile material developed by the Czech company MOIRA, based on a patented polypropylene fibre with a unique cross-sectional profile (e.g. Moira TG900). This structure ensures rapid moisture transport, low weight, and excellent thermal insulation. Its history dates back to 1991, when the company in Strakonice began developing innovative thermal underwear; by 1996 the Moira fibre was patented and started being used in sportswear and workwear applications.
Production is carried out by extruding polypropylene into a microfibrillar form, which is then spun and knitted into the final textile. Thanks to the fibre’s shape, sweat is quickly transported away from the skin into outer layers where it evaporates, while the material itself remains dry and helps prevent chilling. By blending with elastane, modal, merino wool, or viscose, the properties can be adjusted for different uses, but all Moira variants are hypoallergenic, skin-friendly, antibacterial, and UV-resistant.
In the textile industry, Moira® is mainly used for functional underwear, thermal clothing, sportswear, workwear, and medical textiles. It is particularly suited for active lifestyles, outdoor activities, and demanding professional use due to its durability, low weight, fast-drying properties, and easy maintenance.
