Nettle seed

The stem of the stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is the source of a strong bast fibre used in the textile industry since prehistoric times. It contains fibres that, after being separated from the woody core, are processed into sliver and then spun into yarn. The fibre is breathable, lightweight, hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and has excellent temperature-regulating properties. Historical findings show that nettle fibre was already used in the Bronze Age for making fabrics, ropes, and cords.
