Wool insulation
Wool insulation is an eco-friendly insulating material obtained from sheep’s wool (either raw fleece or recycled wool textiles). The use of sheep’s wool dates back to antiquity, when it was used to insulate clothing, blankets, and dwellings; however, its modern application in construction and technical uses began in the 20th century. Processing involves cleaning, washing, drying, and forming the wool into felts, mats, or loose-fill forms; for building insulation, it is often combined with recycled textiles or natural binders to improve stability and durability.
Wool insulation is vapour-permeable and effectively regulates moisture, while also having natural self-cleaning and antibacterial properties. It provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Beyond construction, it is also used in technical textiles, the automotive industry, furniture production, and home furnishings, as well as in insulating layers for specialised clothing.
In recent decades, emphasis has been placed on the renewability and recyclability of wool, making wool insulation one of the leading sustainable and health-safe materials in both the textile and construction industries.
