Casein
Milk protein – casein, a biopolymer fibre. The first milk-based fibres did not show sufficient strength. A material called Chinon was developed in Japan in the 1960s from a mixture of 30% casein and 70% acrylonitrile. Today, several branded materials are produced, such as Milkofil – made from organic milk, Milkotton – a blend of cotton and milk fibre, Millwood – made from cellulose and milk, and Qmilch – produced from waste milk. These textiles are soft, absorbent, and feel similar to cashmere. They are also considered environmentally friendly.
