metal threads - with lurex
Metallic yarns with Lurex are modern textile materials in which the base consists of metallic fibers made from a special film (Lurex®), most commonly a polyester film coated with a thin layer of aluminum, or alternatively with colored lacquers or metallized finishes. Lurex was patented in France in the 1940s and quickly gained popularity in both apparel and home textiles due to its high shine, color variety, and flexibility—qualities that traditional pure metal threads could not offer. The production of Lurex yarns involves laminating a thin metallic layer onto a plastic (polyester) film, which is then cut and processed into fine, shimmering fibers. These fibers are often twisted together with cotton or viscose yarns, or used as decorative effect yarns. Lurex metallic yarns are widely used: they decorate fashion knitwear, evening and formal dresses, lace, trims, embroidery, as well as interior textiles and decorative items such as cushions and curtains. The material combines strong visual impact with lightness, flexibility, and durability, making it suitable for a wide range of innovative design applications.
