Merino-hemp yarn
Merino-hemp yarn is a blended textile yarn combining fine merino wool and strong hemp fiber, merging the thermal insulation, antibacterial, and soft properties of sheep's wool with the strength, absorbency, and ecological benefits of hemp. The development of such combinations began in the 1990s with growing interest in sustainable and functional textiles, as complementary blends of natural fibers were sought for both apparel and technical textiles. Processing starts with harvesting merino wool from sheep and hemp stalks, followed by cleaning, carding, blending both fibers in a desired ratio (commonly 50:50, 70:30, or other), and spinning on carding and spinning machines into uniform yarn. The resulting yarn is strong, elastic, breathable, antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and offers excellent moisture and heat regulation. Merino-hemp yarn represents a sustainable, comfortable, and functional alternative to synthetic materials and a trend in eco-friendly clothing.
