Ústredie ľudovej umeleckej výroby Banska Bystrica
The Regional Craft Centre (RCR) of ÚĽUV in Banská Bystrica was established in 2005 as a contact point providing advisory and educational services for the central Slovakia region. It operates with its own network of art advisors and craft instructors from the region.
The centre is located in the city centre in a reconstructed burgher house dating from the first third of the 16th century on Dolná Street. Its main activity is the year-round operation of the ÚĽUV School of Crafts, offering short-term and long-term courses for children, youth, and adults, some of which are also accredited.
During July and August, the centre organizes weekly craft course sessions for children aged 8 to 15 as part of the “Craft Holidays” programme.
Visitors interested in traditional crafts can develop their skills mainly in pottery, wire craft, textile, woodcarving, and reverse glass painting workshops. Based on demand, the centre also offers workshops focused on other traditional crafts.
For groups, the RCR provides guided visits combined with demonstrations of traditional crafts, as well as creative workshops where participants—especially primary school pupils—can create a small handmade item.
The RCR ÚĽUV Banská Bystrica also includes a sales area for folk art products and a specialized library.
