We stand behind the JANKIV brand - siblings Karolína and Michal. In our work, we are dedicated to saving and restoring a unique craft branch of clothing production - the art of hand pleating, which has almost disappeared in Slovakia. Pleating is the art of folding materials and creating structures on fabric. The oldest textiles with a plissé structure - i.e. folds and folds - are more than 4000 years old and were discovered in Egypt. Pleating came to Slovakia through fairs, thanks to which people began to use this technique to decorate traditional clothes - costumes. Today, hand pleating has the power to elevate and transform any material into a work of art. At JANKIV, we believe that behind hand pleating lies a breathtaking history that deserves to be further developed into its current form. We design, pleat and sew all models by hand in our studio in Košice. When creating each JANKIV piece, we use traditional methods, but at the same time we approach them innovatively. We strive to preserve high-quality tailoring and revive the art of hand pleating. We pleat using historic paper forms that are several decades old, which we received as a legacy from people who have devoted their entire professional lives to this technique. With our work, we bring our own view of how the artistic technique of manual pleating should look in the 21st century.
