Vysoká škola výtvarných umení - Textilná tvorba
The University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Department of Textile Design, is a leading educational institution in Slovakia focused on textile design, clothing design and artistic textile creation. Its history dates back to 1975, when the first textile studio was established, and after political changes in 1989, a specialized department was formed, which today includes studios for clothing design, textile design and free or spatial textile creation. Students learn to work with various materials and techniques, from traditional weaving, knitting, embroidery or lace to modern digital technologies, machine embroidery, screen printing or digital printing. The outputs of the department are very diverse and include original clothing collections, textile objects and installations, designer fabrics, knitwear, prints and utility textile products such as scarves, bags, interior textiles, tapestries or carpets. Products and projects are created not only as works of art or student presentations, but also with the aim of cooperation with industry and applications in design, interiors or fashion. The department prepares graduates who can independently create from concept to design to the final product and at the same time combine artistic, design and technological approaches. Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the history of textiles, material properties, processing of textiles and the possibilities of their use, thus preparing them to work as designers, creators of art or in the textile industry. The philosophy of the department emphasizes experiment, innovation and an interdisciplinary approach, supports the use of new materials and technologies and at the same time preserves the values of traditional craft procedures. The department of textile creation at VŠVU thus represents an important platform for the development of textile culture, art and design in Slovakia, which connects education, research and creation and provides space for experimental, design and commercial applications of textiles.
