Mazáčová Emília
Like others, she didn't get a taste of straw production in her childhood or thanks to her family. Not even in Veľké Leváry, where she was born and still lives, and in the wider surroundings, this production did not occur. Even as a girl, Emília Mazáčová knew how to sew, weave and embroider, so she was not far from traditional production and natural materials when in 1975, finishing her maternity leave, she decided to apply for a position in the production cooperative Detva, which at that time had set up an operation in Veľké Leváry focused on the production of small decorative and souvenir items from straw. She joined the company as an ordinary worker, but in a short time, thanks to her hard work, precision and invention, she developed into a master foreman. And soon she was able to use her creative talent as an artist when designing her own subjects and compositions. The assortment of the production cooperative Detva was dominated by pictures made using the inlay technique of ironed straw on paper, capturing mainly flowers, bouquets and architecture. In those days, this type of accessories was in great demand on the domestic and foreign markets. In addition to them, the production cooperative also produced knitted Christmas decorations (bells, cones, balls, etc.), which were inspired by traditional decorations on harvest wreaths.
