VOFA operates a hemp (hemp) line, where hemp is broken down into fibers (Hanffasern) and pith (Hanfschäben) in an exit treatment facility ("Aufschlussanlage") at the Läwitz location. Mechanical decomposition is done by breaking the hard center of the plant stem (including the pulpy parts), then separating the fibers and cleaning them. Their hemp fibers are used in various applications - in addition to construction (e.g. as insulating material or in composites), they are also used in the automotive industry in the form of natural fibers for reinforcing plastics ("naturfaserverstärkte Kunststoffe"). VOFA is also involved in research projects: for example, it participated in a project where technologies were developed to recover short fibers ("Kurzfasern") from the exhaust of the hemp line, which improves the efficiency of fiber production.
