HANFFASER Uckermark eG

Hanffaser Uckermark eG is a German genossenschaft (cooperative) based in Prenzlau (Brüssower Allee88) that deals with the processing of industrial hemp. The company processes hemp grown on approximately 400-500ha in the Uckermark region. Their production processes produce technical fibers (Hanffasern) in different fractions and qualitative variants, which are intended for industrial applications. In addition to industrial fibers, Hanffaser Uckermark also produces construction materials from hemp — primarily ecological insulation boards (Hemp-Dämmstoffe), distributes hemp pith (Schäben) for use in building composites, and also offers short fibers (Kurzfasern) and granules. The cooperative was established in 2013, when the former private company of the hemp factory took over the social-ecological notice of the genossenschaft model. Their corporate structure is based on the principle of shared responsibility, where employees have a high degree of independence and decision-making powers. An ecological approach is key for Hanffaser Uckermark: a controlled agricultural hemp cultivation system, plastic-free production, recycling of residues (leaves, dust, remaining pith) and the use of renewable energy from solar panels ensure a minimization of the environmental footprint. The cooperative is actively involved in research and innovation projects - it cooperates with partners from research and industry on the development of new hemp materials, new processing technologies and patents solutions for natural fibers. Hanffaser Uckermark is an important player in the field of bio-ecological construction and sustainable materials. Their hemp insulation materials offer advantages such as good thermal and acoustic insulation, a long service life and a harmless composition without toxic additives.
