RWTH Aachen – Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA)
The Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) at RWTH Aachen is a leading research and education facility in the field of textile technology and engineering. Research at ITA covers the entire textile value chain – from raw materials and fibers to yarns, weaving and nonwovens, to end applications and composite materials. The technological areas it focuses on include the production of high-performance fibers, the production of technical textiles, bonding and surface treatment processes, as well as the development of medical textiles.
One of the important research approaches of ITA is sustainability and the circular economy: the institute actively works on recycling textile materials, using renewable materials and optimizing the energy efficiency of production processes. ITA is also involved in projects of sustainable textile production and the development of smart textiles that combine new materials, digitization and automation.
From the point of view of transfer of knowledge into practice, ITA Technologietransfer GmbH operates at the institute, which provides support to companies in prototyping, development of new textile products, consultations and testing. In addition, ITA emerged from ITA Academy, which offers training, workshops and digital solutions for companies in the field of textile production and digitalization.
