aida stitch
Embroidery made by punching, cutting out and sewing holes according to a pre-drawn pattern. Holes of various shapes are left empty or filled with garters. According to the decorative principle, it belongs to openwork. In Europe, it is known as English embroidery or Madeira. In the folk environment, it became popular mainly in western Slovakia in the form of fine white or colored embroidery. It was used to decorate festive and ceremonial clothing - men's shirts, women's hats, scarves, tacle (wide ruffled sleeve ends) and krézle (wide ruffled collar) on the sleeves.
