jacquard loom
The Joseph Marie Jacquard loom is a revolutionary weaving machine invented in 1801 by the French inventor Joseph Marie Jacquard. This machine enabled the automated weaving of complex textile patterns using punched cards, which controlled the raising and lowering of individual warp threads. In this way, it influenced not only textile production but also the development of programmable machines and computers. Its principle remains the basis for the production of Jacquard fabrics today.
Punched cards: Each row of holes on a cardboard card corresponded to one row of the pattern. The holes in the card determined which needles would pass through the system and which warp threads would be raised or remain lowered.
Each thread is controlled individually (Jacquard system). Suitable for highly complex patterns, decorative fabrics, and technical textiles.
