chemical recycling of synthetic fibres

Chemical recycling of synthetic fibres is a process in which textile waste is chemically broken down into its original molecular building blocks and subsequently reprocessed into new fibres. Technologies such as depolymerization, glycolysis, hydrolysis and solvent-based recycling are commonly used to recover polyester, polyamide and other synthetic polymers. Unlike mechanical recycling, chemical recycling can restore material quality close to virgin fibre standards. This approach enables the recycling of contaminated, blended or heavily worn textiles that are difficult to process mechanically. Chemical recycling is considered a key technology for achieving circularity within the synthetic textile sector.
