steam explosion

Steam explosion is a fibre treatment technology in which plant materials are exposed to high-pressure steam followed by rapid decompression. The sudden pressure release disrupts lignin and hemicellulose structures, facilitating fibre separation and improving processability. Steam explosion is increasingly used in hemp, flax and other lignocellulosic fibre processing as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional chemical treatments.
