hackling

Hackling is a combing process used primarily for bast fibres such as hemp and flax. Fibres are drawn through progressively finer metal combs to remove shives, short fibres and impurities while improving fibre parallelization. The process separates long line fibres from tow and prepares the material for spinning high-quality yarns.
