Breaking trough (lamalnica)

Breaking trough (lamalnica) – traditional tool used for separating the woody core of hemp stems from the fiber. The device consisted of a trough-shaped wooden structure mounted on four legs, in which hemp stalks were crushed using a heavy wooden mallet or pestle. This type of processing tool was traditionally used in western Slovakia.
