Hemp stem
The main stem of the plant Cannabis sativa, which serves as support for leaves and flowers. It is known for its high fibre content and versatile use in industry and household applications. Two main components are obtained from the stem: hemp bast fibre and hemp shives (the woody core). After harvesting, the stems are processed into:textile fibre (yarn, fabrics, ropes, sails, clothing),shives (building material, hempcrete, insulation, animal bedding),paper (high cellulose content),mulch and compost (improves soil and retains moisture),teas and tinctures (after decarboxylation).
