Woolen fabric

Wool fabric is a textile material made from yarn containing wool fibers from sheep, often blended with fibers from goats, camels, or other animals, or with synthetic materials. The history of this fabric dates back to antiquity, when craftsmen began weaving sheep wool into durable and warm textiles designed for protection against cold; as early as ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, wool fabrics were an important part of both everyday and luxury textiles. Industrial production developed in the 19th century with the rise of wool mills, for example in Lučenec from 1868 onward. Processing includes cleaning, carding, and combing the wool, spinning it into yarn, and then weaving it into various structures: plain weave, twill, or patterned weaves. Finishing treatments include fulling (felting), decatising, dyeing, and surface finishing to improve durability and achieve a softer hand feel. Wool fabric is characterized by excellent warmth, good breathability, dimensional stability, moisture absorption, and natural resistance to dirt. In the textile industry, it is mainly used for coats, suits, blankets, decorative fabrics, and felts; its properties make it a foundation not only for functional but also for luxury fashion and home textiles.
