industrial fabric softening
Industrial fabric softening in the textile industry primarily concerns the process of softening water used during washing, dyeing and other textile treatments. Hard water contains high amounts of calcium and magnesium, which can cause deposits on fibers, reduce the effectiveness of detergents and chemicals, and impair the softness and quality of finished textiles. In home or hand dyeing, felting, and other textile processing that requires water, rainwater is used, which naturally achieves the desired softness. In the case of impurities, it is necessary to filter the water, but in terms of ecology, this is a very gentle method. For the needs of the textile center, we have vats that collect rainwater.
Principle of industrial softening
Ion exchange: The most common method is the use of water softeners based on ion exchange resins. In this process, the calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions in hard water are replaced by sodium ions (Na⁺), which do not have a negative effect on textiles or equipment. The water thus loses its hardness and is more suitable for use in textile processes.
Galvanic softeners: An alternative is galvanic filters, which use an electrochemical process to convert mineral compounds into aragonite, which does not settle on fibers or in equipment. Importance of softening in the textile industry
Increasing the softness of textiles: Softened water prevents the deposition of minerals on fibers, thereby achieving greater softness and a more pleasant touch of finished fabrics
Protecting equipment: Prevents the formation of scale in pipes and on heating elements of machines, thus extending their service life and reducing maintenance costs
Improving the efficiency of chemicals: Detergents and chemicals dissolve better in soft water, which reduces their consumption and contributes to more environmentally friendly production
Product quality: The result is a higher quality and consistency of textile products, especially in terms of their softness, cleanliness and appearance
Industrial fabric softening is an essential part of modern textile operations. The use of softened water improves the properties of textiles, protects production equipment and contributes to more efficient and environmentally friendly textile processing.
