sheep shearing

Wool harvesting – the earliest method of obtaining wool was probably collecting it during the spring and autumn shedding of sheep. Before the La Tène period, when spring shears began to be used, wool was also obtained by plucking, combing, or cutting. In Slovakia, wool plucking was recorded in Čičmany as a way of obtaining material for embroidery while tending sheep. Wool shorn from one sheep is called a fleece.
