Shetland
It originates from sheep bred on the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland, where the animals have adapted to harsh, windy, and cold conditions. It is one of the smallest British sheep breeds. The wool is lightweight, provides excellent insulation, and is also breathable. It is mainly used for knitting traditional sweaters, scarves, hats, and gloves using Fair Isle techniques or lace patterns, for weaving fine and sturdy fabrics, producing blankets, carpets, and upholstery, as well as for felting. It occurs in up to 11 natural colours.
