Gubs began to be produced in Klenovec – a former cloth-making centre – in 1958. The production was initiated by ÚĽUV after rescue research carried out in Jelšava by a longtime employee of the headquarters, Ema Marková. Machines for combing wool were either brought to Klenovec from nearby Ratková, where gubars used to work, or the Klenov masters made them themselves. The wool was washed in a wool laundry, which was built by the ÚĽUV under the dam by the Rimava River, and then combed on four machines owned by old gubarsk families. The products themselves were made in the homes of individual gubars and the finished ones were rolled again in large oak vats in the laundry room.
