wet felting

One of the oldest textile techniques, based on joining animal fibers, especially sheep wool, without spinning them into yarn. Fibers are layered and, under the influence of moisture, heat, pressure, and friction, bind together into a compact textile structure. Felt provides good insulation against cold and moisture. In Slovakia, felting was associated mainly with the production of hats and winter felted footwear known as váľanky.
